ABOUT THE MID AMERICA LEAGUE

THE NEWEST SUMMER BASEBALL LEAGUE

The Mid-America League is a vibrant new baseball league focused on adding an exciting summer entertainment option to under-served markets in the south-central region of the United States.

The 2024 inaugural season begins May 23 and concludes August 10 with playoffs to commence on August 12.  Each of the six teams will play a 68-game schedule (34 home, 34 road).

The roster of 2024 teams includes –

  • Abilene (TX) Flying Bison
  • Fort Smith (AR) Marshals
  • Joplin (MO) Outlaws
  • Piney Woods (White Oak, TX) Timberhogs
  • Sherman (TX) Shadow Cats
  • Texarkana (TX) Rhinos

Mid America League rosters include up to 40 players from NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, community college and junior college players, along with select players who may have exhausted their college eligibility but want to maintain their amateur playing status.  Players stay with host families in their local market during the season.

Teams employ a head coach, pitching coach, and hitting coach who will work exclusively in the summer to coach and manage their Mid-America League team.

Mid America League players have the opportunity to earn income during the season by performing services via a League-wide Name, Image and Likeness program.

Summer baseball has been a development home for players for many decades.  There are more than 40 such leagues throughout the United States but only a small number of them, including the Mid America League, are operated like a minor league professional baseball team, with a focus on sales, customer service and value-add entertainment to compliment the play on the field.

Most MLB players who played college baseball also played summer baseball including many who have been recognized as Hall of Famers, Cy Young Award Winners, MVP’s, All-Stars and other league honors.  Major League scouts are plentiful in attendance as summer leagues often display many of the best collegiate players in the nation.

The founders of the League – National Sports Services (www.nsssports.com) and Ventura Sports Group (www.vsgsports.com) – have more than 100 years of combined experience in the ownership and operation of baseball teams and have built more than a dozen teams from the ground up and developed and operated numerous multi-purposes stadiums throughout the United States.

Numerous markets within the geographic footprint of the league are presently under consideration for expansion in 2025 and future years.
