Host Family Expectations
Expectations for a Host Family include:
• Time Commitment: The time commitment would be from May 20th through August 12th (this will vary pending the player’s schedule, length of stay with the team, playoffs, etc.) These are all adults – some that have more than likely stayed with host families at some point – but may need some old-fashioned parental advice when they are far from home.
• Private bedroom with access to a bathroom. (Futons, air mattresses, and rollaway beds are prohibited)
• Use of your laundry room for their everyday clothes (Uniforms are managed by the organization)
• Breakfast, lunch, and snacks should be available for your player(s). An open fridge policy works best so that your player feels at home fixing his meals. Additionally, the team will provide post-game meals. These players are high-level athletes and tend to be conscious of what they eat. Having a variety of proteins and healthy carbs available for them is helpful.
• Access to your home: Your player(s) will need to have access to come and go from your home if you are not there. Whether it be a key, garage door opener, or keycode. The players will have an active schedule this summer and at times are not home until the early hours of the morning. Host families are welcome to invite the player to be a part of their family meals, TV time or other activities. In most cases, as your relationship with your player grows, you will find him to be “one of the family.” These guys will keep odd hours with late-night games and a crazy travel schedule, so they may not always eat breakfast! Keep in mind that half of these games will be on the road where the players are provided lodging and meals where the games are being played
• Respect your player and their need for rest: Be prepared for your player(s) to sleep in late, as their schedule is rigorous. The players will have over sixty games during the summer, with only one scheduled day off each week.
• Location: Seeing as the players are responsible for driving to and from the field. We request that you are located within 25 minutes of the ball field.
• Communication is key: Once the player arrives, we will address with them the expectations of their host families and we would encourage you to do the same. Exchange cell numbers with your player(s) so they can stay in communication with you.
What you can expect as a Joplin Outlaw Host Family:
• Respect: Players are expected to follow your specific house rules. Upon arrival, give your player(s) an indication of any house-specific rules your family abides by. They are a guest in your home and will be expected to act as such. If any issues arise, we will solve the problem, move the player, or send the player home.
• Underage Drinking: This is not allowed and is discouraged for all the players.
• Guests: Players will not be allowed to have guests in your home without your permission.
• Summer Plans: Host families are encouraged to keep their schedules, including vacations. If you are not comfortable leaving your player at your home while you are away, arrangements can be made.
• Transportation: Your player will have their vehicle and you will not be responsible for providing transportation. (Unless prior arrangements have been made)
• Support from Team Management: If any issues arise, the management team will work with you to provide a solution.
• PERKS: You will enjoy
