For brothers Landin and Jace Midgett, this summer is more than just another chapter in their baseball journeys; it’s a rare chance to share the field and suit up as teammates. The duo has reunited to play for the Joplin Outlaws, turning childhood memories and backyard games into real on-field chemistry in one unforgettable season.
Only two years apart, Landin and Jace spent numerous summers together growing up, playing youth ball, traveling to tournaments, and even high school. However, once Landin graduated from high school and continued his career at Coffeyville Community College, their shared time on the diamond stopped—until now!
From an early age, Landin dreamed of playing for the Outlaws. This summer, that dream has come full circle, not just wearing the uniform, but getting to do so alongside his younger brother.
“Growing up around the area, I always saw the Joplin Outlaws on the news,” Landin said. “Now, being able to do it with my brother, one last summer, is really cool.”
Fresh off his final high school season, where his team reached the Kansas state regional round in the postseason, Jace will follow in his older brother’s footsteps and attend Coffeyville this fall. Joining the Outlaws, as one of the youngest on the team, marks a milestone and a reunion he has been looking forward to.
“I take after Landin a lot,” Jace said. “Just playing with him one more time means a lot to me.”
Despite being together for nearly a month, the brothers have yet to develop a full-blown sibling rivalry, but there are still stakes on the line… sort of.
“Not really,” Landin laughed. “I would say with a travel day on Monday, whoever gets the least amount of hits has to drive to and drive home in the morning when we get back.”
While Jace arrived later than most of the team, he has quickly found his footing and is embracing the challenge of adapting to a faster, more competitive level of play.
“I just play my style, play my own game, and take it day by day,” said Jace. “I am learning on the fly from a lot of really talented baseball players.”
With both Midgetts on the roster, fans have a unique opportunity to watch a rare summer of family, fun, and fierce competition… all in the name of baseball.
